One could easily say that Death Metal is really blooming everywhere nowadays. Death Metal is doing really well, and constantly following what’s going on in the extreme underground Metal scene, really demands some dedication and patience, just to get some true pearls picked out from this bottomless pit of new bands. CRIPPLER, that was formed in summer 2011, are testing the weight of ice by their first 3-track demo, titled "Threshing Sledge", which they got released almost just recently. CRIPPLER, featuring 3 guys from the other Finnish Deathsters SCENT OF FLESH, obviously cannot get enough of US-styled Death Metal, which has also been the name of the game with SCENT OF FLESH for years. It’s bands like early NILE (without any Egyptian themes wrapped around them music wise though), early SUFFOCATION and AMON / early DEICIDE, that all come to mind while spinning CRIPPLER’s debut demo back and forth. The riffs are meaty, crispy, in-yer-face and at times very technical even, Matti’s grunts powerful and convincingly bellowed out – and overall CRIPPLER seem to follow well and amazingly determinedly some deep traditions for some quality US Death Metal. The band has clearly paid lotsa attention to their songs on this ‘teeny-weeny-better-than-promising’ demo, letting also the production be heavy and unpolished enough, maintaining some old school roughness and feel to the demo alone. In fact, this must be one of the better new Death Metal demos that have crossed my path during the past 5 years or so. There’s truly some unrelenting and addictive potential in these guys in CRIPPLER, hence it’s somewhat easy to say ‘go and check them out; you won’t regret it’.
