Belgium’ s sick pathologists ABORTED return with their fourth album and execute again grindcore influenced Death Metal. The ten songs on “Archaic Abattoir” are characterised by several facts, which makes this album to a great piece of music. First it is worth mentioning the technical skills of the involved musicians. These guys are active since 1995 and you evidently hear this, also as a result of the high-end production. Concerning the music it can be described as Death Metal with song structures that obviously remind of EXHUMED and above all CARCASS, especially the change from fast to slow parts. Each song got a huge variety, which means from slow bone crushing to mid tempo and fast blasting. On the track ‘The Inertia’ they even sound very melodic, and on ‘Voracious Haemoglobinic Syndrome’ some keyboards can be heard, but that is only for short, so it really fits to the song. The trick is that ABORTED manage not to lose the feeling for the song. So it does not sound chaotic at all, as one may expect. The vocals offer you a great range from deep growling to more or less screaming and the aspect that people from ILLDISPOSED, HATESPHERE and MNEMIC contribute as additional guest vocalists on four songs does not unfold boredom. Lyrics are rather the usual splatter style and the cover and artwork (including on one picture a playcorpse pin-up!) suits perfectly to them. The only issue some people may criticize is the circumstance that this album is a copy of their last full-length “Goremageddon: The Saw And Carnage Done”. One may call it stagnation, but it is stagnation on a high level and the last one was a killer release, so in my eyes there is no reason for changing anything. www.goremageddon.be.
