In times like these, international collaborations are really useful, as far as politics and the problems of the planet are concerned. Looking at music in common and Metal especially, these kinds of collaborations are still not that usual. But thanks to that mysterious phenomenon of the internet, musicians from all over the world can combine their efforts without seeing each other or even practising together. With CRYPTIC REALMS, we seem to have a case of such a band, since the members are from Greece, Mexico, Brazil and the United States, respectively Romania. But even though their first offering “Eve Of Fatality” was recorded in 2015, CRYPTIC REALMS would have fitted in 25 years ago either, musically. All the four songs on this demo remind me of the great deeds of the first generation of Florida Death Metal, you know, bands like OBITUARY and MASSACRE in particular. Therefore it should not be any wonder that CRYPTIC REALM took their moniker from a song on the mighty “From Beyond” album. “Eve Of Fatality” can be seen as a tribute to the old school of US Death Metal, as much as it is a brainchild of four guys from all over the world who just did what they always wanted to do. And seen from this point of view, this demo is a fine one. Despite the fact that anything here was done with the help of the digital generation, the sound is as old fashioned as possible. In addition, the songs are cool, especially the short and rabid opener ‘Total Demise’ and ‘Nocturnal Desecration’ need more than just honourable mentions. If you’re still into the good old school of Florida Death Metal and can’t stand CANNIBAL CORPSE any more, you’ll get a very good slap in the face at http://crypticrealms.bandcamp.com or www.facebook.com/thecrypticrealms. Those who love the old fashioned demo tapes all the way should be quick enough to get their copy at: http://weed-hunter-records.blogspot.de. The tape looks damn well, just as if it was released in the golden age when Death Metal was new.
