This band has taken quite a lot from the melodic side of Death and Black Metal. Strictly speaking, they could have taken it all from IRON MAIDEN, as the majority of them have, but for the sake of variety, and the band’s relative youth, I’ll say DISSECTION and AT THE GATES had a fair hand in their shaping as well. Once again, DAMNATION ARMY are somewhat misplaced. While its true they play Death Metal, they are not of the blackened Death Metal family in any respect. In fact, a latter day SEPULTURA riff is on the first song somewhere near the middle of it, making this, irredeemably, an album far removed from blackened Death Metal. However, that should not diminish its value, for the band does know what its doing with its instruments, but the intended audience may find themselves hard pressed to accept it. That is to say, no one who listens to the Nuclear War Now! catalogue will find this promising material. The Blabbermouth crowd may very well enjoy it.
