One can not deny anymore that US Black Metal has become a very strong and dedicated musical force in the genre. Bands like THORNSPAWN, BLACK WITCHERY, SUMMON, GRAND BELIAL’s KEY or MANTICORE proved with merciless and extremely blasphemous sonic assaults that one should raise his eyes from Scandinavia and look more closely on what is going on overseas. Now DECIEVERION add their name to the listing by releasing their selftitled debut CD containing extremely convincing epic, melancholic yet hateful Black Metal. The 41 minutes long CD features five, very long own hymns and a cover of CELTIC FROST’s ‘Dethroned Emperor’, which is the only track that bored me a little, because it has been covered a bit too often. DECIEVERION’s material is quite original, mainly mid-paced stuff with a diversified guitar play, fast outbreaks, an audible bass (rather seldom in Black Metal, right?), intelligent and surprising song structures and the mighty feeling of anti-clerical, pagan beauty. A song like ‘In The Name Of All That Is Heathen’ is a monumental hymn of vicious yet emotional and dark Black Metal, the same goes for ‘Siren Song Confessions’ and the other three tunes keep this high level of quality with ease. Since the production is damn excellent, too, any heathen or blackened soul out there should get this album soon!!!
