DEFORMITY
Superior

For some strange reason Belgium never managed to establish the same amount of brutal bands as their neighbours in Holland and therefore a healthy scene was never really existing. But DEFORMITY are promising enough to be able to change this now as the quality they deliver on their newest full length could easily inspire a lot of younger Belgian musicians to finally give it a try as well. “Superior” is not only of superior musical quality, it is also their third release already (the follow up to 1997’s”Misanthrope” MCD and 1999’s “Murder Within Sin” CD). And this past experience clearly shines through in their songwriting of today. The band nowadays plays a very tight mixture of CANNIBAL CORPSE (past Barnes era) meets MORBID ANGEL type Death Metal and apart from the usual lack of originality (who actually cares, if the excitement is still there?) they quite obviously know what a good song is all about. So, instead of blasting with hyperspeed through the eleven new songs, they rather focus on effective, brutal (in terms of the intensity almost old SLAYER inspired) riffing and deep grunted, yet very impressive vocals. Blast beats only get used when necessary which increases the intensity of the whole record even more. The good production (courtesy of Rotterdam’s Excess Studios) compliments the material very well, so you shouldn’t hesitate to give these guys your fullest attention. Good one!
