A band from Russia isn't really something special these days but still not as common as a Black Metal combo from Norway, so the expectations had been there. GRENOUER are a "cult act" in Russia, due to several releases during the last 10 years and "Life Long Days" is the first release which is available to a wider audience (in Europe) thanks to Locomotive Records. GRENOUER is playing a wild mix of futuristic Metal , imagine the musical structure / unstructure of MESHUGGAH, take some space elements à la THE KOVENANT and add the vocals starting with KORN (oh my god, I never thought I would mention this band in a Voices review but...) up to more common bands like MACHINE HEAD and very rarely IN FLAMES. If you read these words it seems obvious why this band is getting their chance but I think that "Life Long Days" will not be the starting point for a great European career. The mix is too weird - a clear musical aim is missing, GRENOUER are trying to cover all trends without giving the listener the chance to concentrate on one picture; on the other hand there's real melodies and songs missing which are so essential for this music.
