(Beer City Records)
Well, when I received this promo and checked the booklet - that is, the photos in it, the tracks' titles, the lyrics and, last but not least, the title of this output which is "Thrash'n'Roll", I was sort of delighted, amused and annoyed at the same time. The design and outer appearance of this three-piece band is very telling, no bullshitting of generally interested listeners - that is what I thought - and that is what I was consumed in. Why delighted? After having inserted the CD, I was blasted away by these beerdrinker's hymns - very charming actually. Some RATOS DE PORAO influences, a bit of TANKARD here and there, a bit of old AC/DC vibes in it well... and hey, we all love these acts, don't we? Then HATEWORK are well aware of their own restrictions I reckon... they do know that they won't change the music business, no bragging and dissing in here... like that. Why amused? Well, that is quite clear, isn't it? If you have a look at the lyrics, titles ('XXX', 'Hateway To Hell', 'I.D.T.' which is short for Italian Drinking Team, lol) and if you check the music which is very straight-forward, punk-influenced and primitive - then at least I feel a bit amused in the sense that this music cannot be taken too seriously... because it isn't meant 100% seriously. These guys are ok-ish musicians who compose the soundtrack for an escalating, wild and crazy party where there is a lot of beer involved. Why annoyed? Hmmmm, not really annoyed... this is not my kind of music really - you know that. It is ok for me listening to it once and putting it back into my CD-shelf. I reckon being intoxicated decently and then giving this a listen should be fun really. But listening to it consciously is a bit of a pain in my arse. I think I brought my point across... Otherwise - good one.
