Yeah, I know that this compilation already dates back to 1999 and therefore not necessarily is thaaat fresh anymore, but as Rick Cortez (of the mighty SADISTIC INTENT) was so kind to send me a copy of it the other day (thanx again, man!) I decided to give it a mention nevertheless. "Thrashing Holocaust" features 19 bands that are all trying very hard to breath new live into our beloved good old Thrash Metal... But except for a very few positive examples (more of them in a few seconds) they all basically fail on their mission and by no means do any justice to this musical genre at all! The majority of the bands should be more or less known in the underground already, so no need to mention any names here, but they deliver nothing but pathetic pseudo aggressive and wannabe old school noise. Their songwriting is weak, the production sucks, the riffing completely boring and the vocalists just scream their fuckin' brains out. Listening to these approx. 70 minutes it's no surprise to me that real Thrash Metal is still waiting for its second coming for quite some time now... At least a few contributions turned out very good - but they didn't manage to save this record from being below average in the end either. I'm talking about DESASTER (who are featured with the exclusive 'Burning Crosses'), DEATHWITCH (extremely cool song - it seems I always had a wrong impression about them in the past!), WITCHERY ('Witchburner'), ABSU (who contribute the very good POSSESSED cover 'Swing Of The Axe'!), DEKAPITATOR ('Hell's Metal" - different version, not as strong as on their album, but still far superior than the most of the material of the other bands on here!), USURPER ('Prowling Death') and of course SADISTIC INTENT (new version of their classic 'Morbid Faith') who all saved my day. But if you are out for classic, well done Thrash you better pick up the latest albums by NECRODEATH, DEW-SCENTED or THE CROWN (just to name but a few) to experience the real magic and quality of this music - or go for the individual releases of the bands I positively mentioned above.
