Is there anything better than listening to the voice of the great Kate de Lombaert? I doubt it. Few things in life can match hearing this woman sing. There have been hours and hours and hours of my life spent listening to her tirelessly. Always at the peak of every possible vocal range and always captivating. She is, for me, one of the most powerful and characteristic voices in all of Heavy Metal ever made. And KATE’S ACID is not a “continuation” of ACID (not for me at least). KATE’S ACID is a new force that came to impose a new rule. Its own rule. It is easy to fall into the temptation of comparing the two bands. But I see this as two entities that live their own lives. Time passes. 45 years have passed since Kate’s voice was first heard on an official recording. So, like wine, KATE’S ACID is the maturity of the grape and the excellence of the years. And this new project (KATE’S ACID) born from the earth only two years ago (2024) with that live album they started with in 2024 and which essentially “pays tribute” to ACID is the door that opened this new path. And here, like a valkyrie, via High Roller Records, comes this year this first full-length called “Hellbender”. An album that gathers a series of phenomenal musicians (as it could not be otherwise) who masterfully support the power, strength and magic of Kate’s voice. We are facing a mature Heavy Metal, enriched with dominant guitars, with drums that gallop song after song and a bass that rumbles with energy, leading us to a band that sounds majestic, imposing and exquisite. Songs like ‘Hellbender’, ‘The Lightning Conductor’, ‘Do Not Burn The Witch’, ‘Valkyrie’ and ‘Air Raid’, which closes the album, are for me the best songs and the ones that best represent this band, which despite having a short life feels vintage, familiar and warm.
