A true piece of “gory delicious fun” – to use HEMDALE’s words – is this reissue of BLOOD FREAK’s “Blood, Blood And More Blood” material from 1990 and their 1988 demo together as one full-length CD. All songs have been remastered and it is quite surprising that such a powerful, sick and brutal band like BLOOD FREAK, who definitely are of equal quality as IMPETIGO, DR SHRINKER, early CARCASS or even REPULSION, did not make it in the 90s. The 22 tracks offered here remind me of a mixture of the aforementioned bands and combine bloodthirsty brutality with toilet-style growled and screamed vocals plus a good dose of catchiness that should make any fan of old school Gore / Grind / Death Metal go crazy!!! It is strange that this fantastic band did not release a real album in the 90s, because they might have achieved the same cult-status the bands I mentioned above have today. Fortunately, according to the Razorback Records website, BLOOD FREAK have found the time and motivation to try it again in the Death Metal underground and hopefully this time they’ll succeed. “Sleaze Merchants” is a hellish entertaining, fresh and in no way old-fashioned sounding piece of morbid violence blended with Punk-compatible straightness and was affectionately remastered, pepped up with some horror movie intros and a nice layout which resembles old splatter movie posters. If you already know and like the usual Razorback Records stuff, you’ll dig this too, it’s a timeless journey into the old days and hereby strongly recommended to all gorehounds!
