Storm & Brilliance

From Spain comes this two-piece act that has just released their debut album via Blackend / PHD, what have surpassed my expectations, because, to be honest, it is really hard to find interesting stuff released by this UK based record label considering that they’re in the business for many years now. But “Storm & Brilliance” is a delightful exception, with 13 interesting tracks. The guys have mixed their extreme influences, mainly based on Swedish and Norwegian Black Metal into their own sound, finding touches of early Emperor, Marduk, Setherial with some touches of current (un)godly acts like Watain (gods!). A bestial Black / Death Metal attack with fiery speed attempts, mixed with a powerful sound and a professional production. But not only sonic violence is developed here, we can find some (implicit) melodic touches and interludes that give this record a different flavour, like mid-paced riffs, à la Watain and melodic elements à la Dissection. Highlights…? Mmmhhhh, ‘Unity To Oneness’ or ‘Aeon’s End’ which pretty much summarize everything said. An interesting record, definitely, one of (if not) the best albums ever released by Blackend. I’m just not satisfied with the artwork because it looks like a Death / Grind act release. victor@bloodoline.com
