DENY THE URGE
As Darkness Falls

I really enjoyed listening to this album. DENY THE URGE is a Death Metal act coming from Germany and "As Darkness Falls" is their third full-length. After a short intro, DENY THE URGE punch you in your face with ‘As Darkness Falls’, a fast track where this German trio shows all their potential. ‘Loophole’, the third track, continues in the same way as the previous one. ‘Altar Of Addiction’ starts with some vicious blast beats to then insert some slower passages. Good job here: the band moves from the common 4/4 patterns to 6/8 in a slower part where the guitar solo begins. ‘On The Surface’ is a guitar oriented song and is the longest one here. Again, good tempo changes. The chorus sometimes reminds me of MORBID ANGEL’s ‘God Of Emptiness’. The album maintains the good elements showed in the first 4 or 5 songs. ‘The Processing’ is an instrumental that sounds in the beginning as a contemporary progressive Rock opus (a mix between England’s ARENA and the early works of Marty Friedman – think about "Dragon’s Kiss"). Good work on guitars and drums again (those guys know how to play!). The last track, ‘Separated Flesh’, close this fast and brutal piece of classic Death Metal. In general, the vocal department sounds like a mix between Brett Hoffmann (MALEVOLENT CREATION), Piotr Wiwczarek (VADER) and David Vincent (MORBID ANGEL). The entire album is adorned with an excellent riffing, fast and solid blast beats, double kicks, twisted guitar solos and varied brutal vocals. In general, the compositions are short and effective. The production here is really good, everything sounding perfect and each instrument is well balanced in terms of loudness. Death Metal fans, this must be in your collection.
