DISTASTE
Der Erbtraeger Und Das Fleisch

Let me start by summarizing this review in one word: Wow! DISTASTE is an Austrian mean Death / Grind machine. I really enjoyed their second album, “Black Age Of Nihil”. Their third full length “Deibel” flew under my radar. But luckily I get to do this review of their new release “Der Erbtraeger Und Das Fleisch” (“The Heir And The Flesh” – btw, pardon my butchery of the German language) now under the F.D.A. Records wing. Their brand of music is massive, in your face, energetic, groovy and so damn heavy. I didn’t know what to expect of 14 songs clocking in at almost 30 minutes. Well, after the first listen, I was obliged to hit the play button again… and again. In my humble opinion, the band manages to combine two very specific periods: the late ’80s British Crust style and the early ’90s Northamerican HC approach. These two aspects are bonded by the amazingly precise yet manic drumming of Yannick and Murz’s remarkably elastic bass lines. Lukas and Armin’s riffing is marvelous and right on point and their leads are tasty and perfectly placed. Last but not least, Luka’s vocals are desperate, displeased and effing angry! These guys go pedal to the metal 100% of the time and leave nothing but ruins behind. And the production is the perfect transducer to this spiteful aural destruction. The guitar tone is thick and nasty, complemented by a solid and crisp bass sound. And let’s not forget the absolute kick to the head drum sound, which seems so damn compressed, yet they jump at you from the speakers. The mix is huge and the mastering is devoid of all dynamics. Because with this type of music, that’s exactly how it should be. So just go ahead and get this. Any fan of extreme Metal should have a blast listening to “Der Erbtraeger Und Das Fleisch”. It is jam packed with some pretty pissed off and enraged songs. A perfect mix of Death Metal and Grindcore. Brilliant and mean as hell! Godammit!
