DYING SUN
Transcendence

The true great joy of exploring the depths of the underground is the rare discovery of a brilliant band. The one-in-a-thousand chance to stumble upon an unknown marvel makes wading through the endless swamp of mediocrity all worth it. DYING SUN is one of those precious few prodigies, and thus I’m shocked that they are not on one of the larger indie labels like Relapse or Century Media. As a matter of fact, one visit to DYING SUN’s bandcamp reveals that this album is free. The irony is galling. I would put DYING SUN on a level with OCTOBER TIDE or DAYLIGHT DIES, and even exceeding them in many ways. "Transcendence" has cunning layers of atmosphere – dread and sorrow entwined in an almost cinematic way. And while I’m a Doom Death / Funeral Doom guy, I nonetheless find the CROWBAR / MOTÖRHEAD style vocals fitting to the overall sound picture. Despite the fact that the band already has two other records under their belts, this could be the start of something big for them.
