Strange things are happenig from time to time, one can not explain why and how. I have seriously considered to contact FBI-agent Fox Moulder, known from the X-Files. “Listen to this album, there is something wrong.” But it is real life, so I have to think on myself and after some time I got the answer. It’s the music, stupid. It is (more or less) completely missing. I always waited for the music getting started, but it is more like a neverending intro. Maybe I am not too much in Doom Metal to understand suchlike music, but for me this album is boring. Do not get me wrong, it is not about how many riffs are played in a minute or so, it is about the lack of atmosphere. An album like “Hexenwind” by DORNENREICH is (for me) the clear proof that atmosphere is the fundemantal aspect, because this album is completeley without Metal-guitars and even a Metalhead like me likes it. The debut-album of GRIS is supposed to be depressive Black Metal, I guess; slow developing songs, desperate, shrieking vocals, some keyboards, but like I wrote before, pretty uninspiring. The only crucial point is that there are some really good moments, but those moments are buried in an sea of bordeom. Maybe the listeners must be in a certain mood to like music like this. I am not, nor have I been during the last weeks after I received the promo of “Il Etait Une Foret”. But having the slogan “Trust no one” in mind, once again everyone may decide on his / her own by visting www.myspace.com/niflheim5. Label contact: www.sepulchralproductions.com
