THE GENERALS
To Hell
(Black Zombie Records)

Right from the very first minute this album is pure joy. At least if you are devoted to Swedish Death Metal. While writing this review I was quite amazed seeing THE GENERALS filed under Death’n’Roll, because on “To Hell” this kind of style from the previous releases is completely gone. Perhaps the vocals or some guitar solos here and there, but that is all. Maybe not the dark atmosphere of NAGLFAR, maybe not as melodic as NECROPHOBIC, maybe not as aggressive as LIK, maybe not as old school as BLOODBATH, maybe not as epic as AMON AMARTH, maybe not as rotten from the grave as REPUGNANT and maybe not as minimalistic as DEATH BREATH. But album number three from the Swedish quartet instead makes the listener feel like tucked into a warm blanket, soft and cuddly. Some kind of wellness Death Metal, so to say. That is the positive aspect. Another viewpoint instead is the missing memorability. All Swedish Death Metal trademarks are there, but any specific characteristics like of the above mentioned bands are missing. Still I am undecided whether this is good or bad, maybe just like two sides of one coin. So, as usually, visit www.facebook.com/thegeneralsswe or the label’s site https://blackzombierecords.bigcartel.com to make up your own mind.
