French Death Metallers VAYRON has cranked out their first demo. Consisting of ex members of bands SILURE and UNANSWERED RIP, the Bergerac natives have produced a 4 song demo that has a run time of just under 13 minutes released on obscure underground label Visceral Circuitry Records. I could not find much information on the band so this will be a “cold” review since I typically like to get a good historical review of the band. Let’s dive into this demo and see what this band brings to the table. We start things off with the first track ‘Fanatic’ and right from the start I am hearing a heavy “Gallery Of Suicide” era CANNIBAL CORPSE in both the vocal style and guitar riffs. Heavy crunchy riffs with chugging guitars and bulldozing drums. The song has the fundamentals for a solid Death Metal song. Next up is ‘Drunk’ which is pretty self-explanatory. The song varies from a slow-mid tempo beat to blasting beats at a drop of a hat. Is the CANNIBAL CORPSE influence bad? No, most bands first few demos or first albums are heavily influenced by other bands. ‘Power’ is a highly intense song with crushing drums that just run you over like a Mack truck. A song to jam out to when you are fixing up your car in the garage or to crank out when you are having a few beers. The song that piqued my interest the most was ‘Dirty’, from the guitar hook at the start to the relentless beating from the guitars (and guitar solos) with only subtle changes make this song the stand out from the batch along with being not a bad way to end the demo. Overall, it’s a good demo. Is it great? No, but it’s a good baseline to use in order for the band to expand on. The CANNIBAL CORPSE inspiration is very well abundant and obvious, but depending on where the band goes from here will dictate if they will just be a carbon copy of a well-established Death Metal icon or if they will carve their own path. The demo is only giving us a sneak preview of what this band can do, hopefully they will work on a full-length album soon. Worth a listen and recommended for any CANNIBAL CORPSE fans, give it a try.
