Black / Industrial Metal from Switzerland? Count me in! I was incredibly curious when my editor passed this along, I had to know what this music was and what was going on in Switzerland. On their Facebook page, the band says they’re “Groupe de Metal suisse au visuel macabre et spectaculaire” and obviously I had to translate that into readable English which meant “VERSATILE are a Swiss Metal band with macabre and spectacular visuals” and that is spot on. First and foremost, I’m really enjoying what I’m listening to here. The music in itself, the bigger part of the macabre act, fits in the scenario easily. Ample keys, brilliant atmospheric guitars and loud heart thumping drums are the core of what VERSATILE has to offer. On the vocal front, we’ve got screeches, deep growls and there’s also some synth laden thing going on, which I cannot figure out. I have no clue what is going on here, but this is engaging every single sense of my body. This almost feels like FEAR FACTORY had an illegal baby with some underground German mod DJ who loves dark synth and deep notes a bunch. I looked up the band on YouTube and my goodness, the visuals are stunning! The band literally dropped a teaser eight hours ago. I’ve been a lifelong fan of GODFLESH and I thought I had some understanding of Industrial Metal at large, but VERSATILE have combined art, storytelling and excellent musicianship to their prowess and the results are amazing! Do yourself a favour, check out the band on YouTube and check this album out in entirety. It is very engaging, very visual and very well done! I’m quite surprised at myself here but I suppose it is all due to VERSATILE and their excellent execution. Highly recommended, do check out their videos!
