The French three piece VORTEX OF END isn’t willing to make things easy for the listener. Their second album “Fvlgvr Lvx Terror” is a bastard of Black and Death Metal that is hard to digest. That would not be any problem if the nine songs (including one instrumental overture) were gripping enough to catch some attention. But unfortunately most moments of the album are neither fish, nor flesh, nor good red herring. Sometimes a fine heavy part or a good fast break looks through the grey, just to get washed away by another riff or groove that sounds more forced than fluent. The somehow blurry sound of the album is not any big help here, since it only supports the dreariness that dominates the main part of “Fvlgvr Lvx Terror”. Of course some songs are good approaches, for example the title track or the raw and mainly fast ‘Stellartrance’. But it is hard to impossible listening to “Fvlgvr Lvx Terror” the whole running time without loosing concentration.
