BLIZZEN means something like lightning, but with a slight twist using a phantasy language for making it sound more Metal. BLIZZEN means Heavy Metal, Hardrock and Speed Metal. Chains, spikes, leather and bullet-belts. Four guys who could have stepped right out of a picture book about ’80s Metal. Compared to their Hardrock orientated and playful predecessor “World In Chains”, these four Germans from Giessen are clearly putting more coal on the fire to make their engines run faster again. From the scream that introduces ‘Into The Abyss’, this album is more venomous, it bites and is more aggressive. And despite the often rough and authentic sounding aggression, songs like ‘Witchhammer’, ‘No More Room In Hell’ or ‘Iron Rain’ manage to bring out the melodic and harmonious touch in the highly varied vocals of singer and bass-player Daniel. The German accent with which Daniel sings is familiar to us here, but for some listeners from English speaking countries, the intonation may sound pretty exotic. Like many of the younger bands that blend this traditional Heavy Metal and Hardrock and don’t shy away from furious Speed Metal and raging Thrash, BLIZZEN have a very clever guitar section which does understand how good and varied songwriting works, as can be heard in songs like ‘When The City Sleeps’, the epic and intensive powerful riffing ‘Nightstalker’ or ‘Massive Attack’. With ‘From Sadness To Anger’, we also find a track strongly remembering old SCORPIONS, a song somewhat between ballad and battle cry. Respect! A very listenable album that, despite many reminiscences out of the golden ’80s, continues to develop the band’s recognizable style, which they can now finally claim as their own with their third full-length record. Well done! Now, please take your seats in the time machine and fasten your seat belts, folks… All additional information you will find at: www.facebook.com/blizzenofficial, www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100060886584223
