2025 sees the release of the latest EP by Chile’s GOATZIED, a band existing since 2012 and having three other short releases to their name. “Ancestral Rites Of Goatzied”, released on CD by Mexican label Iron, Blood And Death Corporation, offers four songs of intense no bullshit South American Death Metal. The riffage on this EP is mostly tremolo picked single notes or power chords accompanied by blast beats, double bass, or fast skank parts. You might also hear some mid tempo power chord riffs, the main idea is they keep it simple and to the point. But don’t be mistaken, they can play, nevermind the speed and constant tremolo picking, now and then you might hear the use of a more complex technique like guitar trills in minor thirds which you will notice as the main hook third song ‘Revelations Of The Iron Goat’. These complexities don’t overstay their welcome, keeping things primitive and brutal, yet each song has a touch of personality, for example the first one is embellished by synth keyboards, the second song has a fast pentatonic guitar solo and the third a whammy bar solo. The main vocals are extremely deep, think of Kam Lee of MASSACRE, but also of France’s CATACOMB unhuman sounding low vocals. These really low vocals are accompanied, every other line or every other verse, by a higher register growl in the vein of DEICIDE’s dual vocal approach. At times you can also hear these higher growls by themselves. The last song, ‘The Occult Search For The Vitriol’, seems to belong to a different recording or mixing session as it feels a bit more old school sounding than the other three songs, but still as intense.
