Australians best kept secret? Well, probably… GOSPEL OF THE HORNS already used to terrorize the underground several years ago, when they released a rather classic demo entitled "Satanists Dream", but unfortunately splitted up in 1995 for reasons beyond my knowledge. A couple years later original bassplayer / vocalist Howitzer resurrected GOSPEL OF THE HORNS with a completely new line-up and a new demo ("Sinners") was unleashed, which obviously impressed the people at Holland’s Damnation Records so much that they signed the trio for the release of this mini album. "Eve Of The Conqueror" features five tracks (well, actually four – ‘Sinners’ is a bonus on this CD version), that musically should appeal to everyone into raw old school blackened Death / Thrash Metal. Howitzer’s vocals partly remind me on Pete Helmkamp (ex-ORDER FROM CHAOS / ANGEL CORPSE), while the music is even more devastating and thrashy (in terms of the furiosity countrymates BESTIAL WARLUST / early DESTROYER 666 even come to my mind…). The production fits the material perfectly, as it’s really raw and never polished sounding. So, all in all this has become quite an impressive debut, that everyone who’s sick and tired of all the faceless and immensely hyped releases these days should at least have heard once. Intense Metal for true Metalheads!
