SVNTARER is a new band for me, formed in 2020. Austrian, by the way. I always admit it, there are certain styles of Metal that I’m not very familiar with. Even though I like to explore new and new bands (new for me), I confess that my search circulates only in certain styles. I stayed in the first sounds of Metal. And I’m not saying that I only listen to classic bands. I am not part of that group of people who say that only classic bands are worthwhile. I believe a lot in the Metal bands (in all their aspects) that have appeared from the year 2000 until now. And I believe (firmly) that many of those bands that have appeared in the last 25 years, surpass (in many cases) the classic bands. It may be uncomfortable for some, but, in my opinion, being classic is not synonymous with “better”. In short, you can never talk about anything from the ground of generalizations. I must say that I have not opened myself much to other styles of Metal like this one that defines the music of SVNTARER. When I look ahead of time at what kind of Metal this band plays, I find that it is Sludge / Post Metal. I’m not even clear on what that is. But I like to learn. So once again, I set out to listen to this, as far as I can see, their second full-length, “Exitus Triumphalis”, released this year by F.D.A. Records. From that point, I liked the band’s sound. I liked how the first track, ‘Torch The Saints’, started. A mixture of several things. And of course, Punk appeared without a doubt. But more than that, I like, and then, by running the rest of the album, that SVNTARER is a quite melodic band. I was surprised by that melodic part of the track ‘Oh Lord, Come Dance With Me’. That structure is much more pleasant for me than the Punk thing. But that melodic constant is not present only in the track ‘Oh Lord, Come Dance With Me’, it also appears with force in the track ‘Dirigent Des Niedergangs’ and ‘Burnt Out Into Oblivion’ (CD bonus track). And those types of songs are the ones that work better for me throughout the album. They were the songs that best fit my preferences. But that doesn’t mean that the rest of the songs aren’t good enough. They are quite rich songs in structures and I know that people less square than me will love them. From here, from this album, “Exitus Triumphalis“, I stick with its more melodic parts, I’ll say. I think they are the ones that give weight to the album. The ones that take it out of the territory of conventionalisms in Metal. Or, well, it’s the interpretation I make of the album from my relationship with Metal. A definition? Great band, great album.
