TORTURED CORPSE
Rites Of Purtridity And Death

From Poland comes this old school Death Metal band, which I “stumbled upon” on Facebook. The splatter artwork of their now available EP reminded me pleasantly of that of “Tomb Of The Mutilated”, so the contact was quickly established, which ultimately led to the band providing me with an advance copy of “Rites Of Purtridity And Death” and asked for a review. Gladly guys, because what TORTURED CORPSE fabricate on their debut, is exactly my thing. Death Metal of the old school. Unadorned and in a positive sense kept simple and primitive, but still well played, without superfluous frills. The Poles follow more the American school of the early ’90s (MASSACRE, early CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE) and also allow a slight Thrash note – reminiscent of “Pleasure To Kill” – in their songs. Also production-wise the six song demo sounds pleasantly old-fashioned and grounded. The sound is slightly washed out, which makes the songs sound even a bit more gloomy and brutal. Only the somewhat too treble-heavy and rattling sounding drums could be criticized. Stylistically, there are fortunately no surprises. True Death Metal is celebrated here. The guttural vocals are abysmal and stylistically reminiscent of Kam Lee, but at times also a little reminiscent of the vocals on the debut of GRAVE. The songs always go well forward, but never lapse into grindy frenzy. It’s just the simplicity of the songs that make them pure enjoyment. This is Death Metal as it should be. No experiments – pure musical brutality and honestly felt fun in the genre. Listening to “Rites Of Purtridity And Death” is simply fun! Give the guys a chance.
