VITRIOL from Portland from the Westcoast of the United States have just released their debut via Century Media Records, who started to spread their word a while ago. Already their taster made me curious, so I was more than happy to receive their album for a review here. The opening track ‘The Parting Of A Neck’ delivers it in total. Technical Death Metal but enriched by precise drumming, ever pounding double-bass and brutal screams haunted by sharp guitars, a real punch in the face. Influenced by bands like CANNIBAL CORPSE, DYING FETUS, DEATH, CATTLE DECAPITATION, the guys really made huge steps in their short band history to be able to unleash such a beast as debut. Sure they present nothing new here but who does nowadays? Especially the returning lead melody keeps in mind for a while and is a pretty fine tune. The mentioned taster I used to check before follows in form of ‘Crowned In Retaliation’, another technical beast with even quicker double-bass, presenting technical Death Metal at its best. To be honest I skipped that style for a while now but get remembered by VITRIOL, that I really like this brutal technical thunderstorm. Some MORBID ANGEL appears occasionally paired with some good old DEICIDE tunes here and there. Sure that might be the problem of the album. It really sounds killer and the tracks are more than fine but if you would play it for me after three beer in the night, I wouldn’t be able to tell you, who it is who plays. Anyway, tracks like ‘Legacy Of Contempt’ or ‘The Rope Calls You Brother’ are on a pretty high level technically and the damn good production really crashes all. What I personally like in their material is the organized chaos which always returns to good melody lines and structured destruction. Also sometimes they just deliver groovy neckbreaking slow old school stuff. Compared to the above mentioned bands, they really don’t need to hide and I guess we will hear some more of VITRIOL in the near future. Rounded off with a pretty inconspicious but fitting bloody cover artwork, "To Bathe From The Throat Of Cowardice" is a nice and divertig debut release by a talented band.
