Coming from France we have the new album from LES BÂTARDS DU ROI. This past few years there had been a huge revival of Black Metal bands coming from that country, which never really had been considered among the places where we get a great Metal scene. But that is starting to change now. I don’t speak French, so my review will be based only on the music of the record. But their lyrics had always been more about medieval ages and fictions, so I’m guessing this is still the case. I’m vibing to the black and white cover which would probably be the members of the band on horses. The production is very good. At first they kind of give me some TRIBULATION kind of Gothic passages. This is not full blown blast beats Black Metal. There are some intricate passages and melodies as well. And there’s the group choruses in the Gregorian style at some point. There’s a riff in the song ‘L’Âme Sans Repos’ that sounds really good. The use of keyboards to create a more atmospheric sound works really well here. This is the type of music that I personally love to listen to when it is raining outside and I am home relaxing. Very beautiful sound. If you haven’t heard these guys before I encourage you to give them a try. It is a purchase worth of your money. Just 9 songs of pure atmospheric Black Metal to enjoy here. Very recommended effort. www.facebook.com/people/les-bâtards-du-roi/61564480907615, www.facebook.com/ladloproductions
