LUGUBRIOUS GARMENT is a one man Black / Death Metal band from Italy. The mastermind behind is multi instrumentalist Gabriele Gramaglia. He is also behind some other own projects such as COSMIC PUTREFACTION, THE CLEARING PATH and is also a member of HADIT, VERTEBRA ATLANTIS and other bands. With such a broad horizon of musical endeavours, it is no surprise that LUGUBRIOUS GARMENT comes at you with an array of Black / Death Metal infused with progressive and Grindcore elements. That variety of influences are used to create a really unusual landscape. Yet it has a familiar and savage Death Metal approach. One of the first highlights is the production. It is really organic and fits the overall atmosphere perfectly. The guitar tone is razor sharp; a tight bass guitar sound and punchy drums. The mid grunt / growl vocals feel perfect for the constant shift in pace and rhythm. The balanced mix is clear and gives each instrument its own space. Finally, the mastering process is dynamic and refined, although the music is intense and extreme. This combination makes “In The Wide Vale Of Uncreated Night” a great album from start to end, never missing a beat. Gabriele manages to come up with compositions that are elegant and brutal, packing a lot of memorable riffs, leads, atmospheric and interesting parts that binds the listener to the experience. His performance shows not only great talent but also a deep understanding of how to craft his own style of music. The inherent darkness his music exudes is surprising but not unexpected. Along with his other bands and projects it seems he has built an identity. And this shows in how mature “In The Wide Vale Of Uncreated Night” sounds even though it is their debut album. Overall, this is one of those albums that deserve several spins to fully enjoy, since you can discover new details and nuances every single time you listen to it.
