When the first notes of the intro ‘To Your Nightmare’ reached my ears, I was quite irritated. I quickly took another look at the cover, something must have gone wrong. Sounds more like atmospheric post Black Metal than Thrash Metal. After a little over a minute, I was finally relieved and OUTBURST deliver what the album cover promised – pure Thrash Metal, which does not change during the nine songs. OUTBURST are hailing from the German town of Flensburg and “Devouring The Masses” is their first full-length, the first demo dates back to year of the band’s formation in 2019. The five northerners certainly master their instruments and the classic old school songwriting style, they stick to what works and keep it simple. Which should not be interpreted as meaning that the songs are boring or dull, on the contrary. OUTBURST are exploring slower moments in one place or another and occasionally they touch more melodic Speed Metal areas. All in all a successful and promising debut, especially tracks like ‘Warfare’ and ‘Assault’ invite you to heed METALLICA’s call to “bang your head against the stage like you never did before”.
