VORAX is a Death Metal band from Switzerland that I had absolutely no knowledge of. I see they have been making music since 2020 and debuted with the EP titled “Jurassic Dawn” in 2022. An EP that contained four songs and showed a band with a somewhat “modern” sound for my taste, but after listening to it more calmly, I accept it without a problem. The band tackles a very interesting theme, always revolving around dinosaurs, prehistoric eras, natural cataclysms and mass extinctions. Now it is the turn of this, their first full-length, titled “Volcano Shock”, an album that keeps both lines: the sound and the lyrical in the same grounds. However, it seems to me that this album, “Volcano Shock”, already shows a more solid, more structured band, with songs a bit more circumscribed within the framework of various classic Metal styles, without straying from that Metal they played on their 2022 EP. I really liked songs like ‘Volcano Shock’, a very martial song that took me in some parts to CELTIC FROST. ‘Burning Lava’ is a song that precisely exemplifies very well what I say about the look towards more classic Metal. It has a very rich melodic component and a very exquisite guitar solo at the end. And ‘The Great Dying’, the closing track. A track that, while maintaining that style I talk about, brings back a bit of the Heavy Metal atmosphere and by far, makes it my favorite song on the album. It must be mentioned that the band has a very experienced line-up and that gives them a lot of authority when proposing and executing their music.
