According to Wikipedia, the town of Tarzali, as per the 2021 census has 431 people. And one of those 431 people has put out a dark brutal debut on Iron, Blood And Death Corporation. ANGERONA is a one man Australian project hailing from the town of Tarzali. This is the first release under this moniker and provides the listener with two distinct discussion points. One, the music itself, which we will get to and second, an opportunity to listen to something from an absolute corner of the world no one outside that region has ever heard of. One realizes the power of the internet and music being one of the key art forms that people consume on a day to day basis. I’m still amazed when I look at the town of Tarzali. I suppose it is of no surprise what we have here, ANGERONA is pretty outright an explosive force that relies on traditional atmospheric Black Metal elements, it has got the art form locked down right down to the basics stretching all the way to the extremities. The vocals are pretty standard, the guitars and the traditional Black Metal riffing is on absolute point. Some of the solos are spectacular, even if it means they’re short lived. I suppose on the whole, even though this is a notable debut, there are certain points to be discussed. The first and foremost being this album needs some attention in the mixing department, there are sudden highs and lows in the mix. One can argue it is the nature of the genre and I’ve to expect a certain element of uncertainty. I would’ve, had it been dungeon synth. Most of what I hear on “The Omen Ov Forbidden Prophets” seems well thought out from the get go and executed with relative strength. I absolutely respect the effort on this release, but it has its strengths and shortcomings like most albums. Fans of dirty and traditional Black Metal should definitely give this a listen, they’d be delighted with the riffs and the atmosphere.
