ARKHON from Lima, Peru have only released one demo so far – namely “Devoured In A Dark Dimension” from 2019. This tape has been re-released with three bonus tracks as a digipak CD, limited to 300 copies. A four year old demo without the band releasing an album or anything like that yet – I can understand anyone who smells money-making here. Especially when you consider that the two songs are a cover song and one with alternative lyrics, so basically it’s just one new song. But if you listen to the four tracks of the original demo, you will be amazed. Less because of the good sound or the skills of the musicians on the instruments, in the last twenty years it has become more and more common that bands release demos that have the standard of a studio album. What impresses me much more, even if it may sound a bit exaggerated, is the musical vision of the band. Death Metal that manages to unite opposites. Modern and at the same time a huge old school vibe, technical parts are alternating with a focus on more plain and simple riffs, we have blast beats, but also slower parts, making the atmosphere a mixture of both, aggressive and menacing. The songs are combining feelings of fury and wrath with feelings of cosmic horror from beyond. I would like to put it this way: ‘Maze Of Torment’ by MORBID ANGEL is one of the bonus tracks, and it does not really stand out from the other demo songs.
