CADAVERIC POISON is a project consisting of Felix and Seegel from Germany’s Thrash horde WITCHBURNER and the MASTER himself, Paul Speckmann. After a 7inch release in 2014, they finally release their self-titled debut via Metal On Metal Records. After the instrumental intro ‘Cadaveric’ with some intense chords, the band unleashes their beast in form of ‘The Few’ which clearly shows the already expected direction. A raw old school bastard in vein of late 80s classics moving on the borderline between Death and Thrash Metal with pounding drumming and thrashy riffing. The band grows from track to track and ‘Fight For Evil’ is the first little highlight on the album. Fast and thrashy riff-work combined with partly primitive old school Death Metal riffing, raw and mangy vocals of Mr. Speckmann and intense dynamic drum-work really make this output and enjoyable trip back to the days, when the raw powers of the underground delivered the base for the huge amount of extreme Metal styles known today. ‘Never Put All Your Stones in One Basket’ clearly shows that old school mid-tempo Death / Thrash Metal is still as enjoyable as back in the days. Also really enjoyable are the incorporated lead melodies and solos, which show the technical abilities of Seegel and give the songs the needed variety. The production is very raw and dirty but powerful and well-chosen for this old school bastard. Speckmann’s lyrics handle all kind of topics between the classic gore topics and social critical contents. After the eight killer tracks, the band closes with another instrumental track in form of ‘Poison’ with some weird samples of noises and a nice ending. Fans MASTER or WITCHBURNER and all fans of old school Death Metal will not be disappointed by this all-star project as the members really know how to play this game.
