The Conquered Are Burned

After the well received debut “Urn Of Blood”, Australian Death Metal quartet CEMETERY URN releases their second full-length “The Conquered Are Burned”. Later, a vinyl version will be released through Hell’s Headbangers Records. The eight brutal tracks featured here can be described as a mix of old GRAVE (“Tremendous Pain” era) especially ’cause of the production, INCANTATION and some Finish brutality. Actually, some riffing make it sound even older and brought MORBID ANGEL to mind. As typical for Australian Death Metal, the extremity-level is pushed to far heights but without becoming benighted. The speed varies from slow, midpaced to hammering tempo. Each song features a lot of breaks but manage to keep a constant atmosphere: brutal and dark with class! Drummer Xav Lawrence does a great job! Not by inhuman speed like ABOMINATOR, but his energy and tightness lift things to a higher level. The riffing of Andrew Gillon is as always dark and intense. Also a huge talent, already proved by his work in the aforementioned ABOMINATOR. The vocals of Damon (Bloodstorm) Burr, who you might know for his duty in CORPSE MOLESTATION / BESTIAL WARLUST, ABOMINATOR a.o. are deep and reminded of Craig Pillard, Martti (DEPRAVITY) and even Lawrence Payne (OBTRUNCATION) for some reason. Intentionally or not, CEMETERY URN succeeded in sounding very old school. This release would have fitted perfect in the line of quality releases that ruled the scene in 1992. Compared to “Urn Of Blood” this is equally as good and that’s of course not a bad comment! I would recommend this to fans of the aforementioned bands plus FUNEBRARUM, IGNIVOMOUS, INCANTATION, DISMA, DEMIGOD and the likes.
