French Death / Thrash outfit CORROSIVE ELEMENTS, not to be confused with Greek Death / Thrash outfit of the same name, released their first full-length, "Toxic Waste Blues" recently a good seven years after their EP "Chaos Unleashed " from 2008. New vocalist Brice Moreau, guitarists Yves Pene and Tarik Usciati, bassist Lionel Gendre and drummer Rachid Trabelsi deliver a not-so-consistent, yet interesting mix of fast-paced Metal built for multiple listens in order to gather it all in. There’s the three-track face punch of openers ‘Burn The Preachers’, ‘Destructive Cult’ and ‘Wrong Turn’. There’s classic old school Heavy Metal guitar riffing in ‘Oppression’. There’s the thrashy, chunky speed of ‘Toxic Waste Blues’. There’s flesh-ripping bass soloing in ‘A Premium Carnage’ and ‘Wrong Turn’. Then there’s the head-scratcher which we sometimes see rear its ugly head in Death Metal albums, stopping the blood-curdling pace of the album in its tracks. ‘The Awakening’, two minutes of unnecessary tribal chants, and not good ones, kills the mood. ‘He Dwells In The Abyss’ crawls out of the prior track bringing the album back into full swing with its chugging guitars, pounding drums and guttural vocals. There’s a little bit of branching in various directions on this album which may confuse the listener as to which direction the band actually wants to take. But… multiple listens have caused this album to grow on me. Give it a few listens yourself. Maybe it’ll grow on you also if it doesn’t catch your attention on the first listen.
