Obviously Gus Rios has still some resources left besides GRUESOME, EVIL AMIDST and UPON INFLICTION, so he teamed up with Alex Marquez (SOLSTICE and too many former bands to be listed here) and Daniel Gonzalez (POSSESSED, GRUESOME) to launch CREATE A KILL. For some reasons the recording of the debut was split up. Not less than four musicians took over drum duties, namely Dirk Verbueren of SOILWORK and Tobias Gustafsson of GOD MACABRE and TORTURE DIVISION as guest musicians, the rest was split between Gus Rios and Alex Marquez. Three complete tracks were recorded with guest Matt Harvey (EXHUMED) on vocals, while the rest was done by Alex Marquez. Sounds pretty heterogeneous and fragmented, but I can assure you, the result is completely rounded up. My first impression: wow, that is a massive wall of sound! The term modern associated with aspects like sound and production is quite rightly criticized, but is inappropriate in this case. Brilliant, pumping and crystal clear “Summoned To Rise” is going to set your speakers in flames. And the music itself? A ferocious blend of fast, aggressive Thrash Metal with Death Metal riffs making an appearance here and there. No question, the shared past of MALVELOLENT CREATION (Gus Rios and Alex Marquez) is noticeable and audible. Another style incorporated is Grindcore, no wonder if you know Daniel Gonzales performing as live musician for EXHUMED. Especially the rhythm patterns are inspired by albums like “Death Revenge” and “Necrocracy”. What at first looked like another dispensable side-project of some old friends (in fact the cross-connection between the involved bands and musicians would be worth a scientific paper) turned out to be a superb album with no fillers.
