DALIT are a Doom / Death band based in Stavanger, Norway. They’ve been active for 14 years now and Moksha is their third full length. “Moksha” rests itself precariously on the path to genre glory. The band manages to weave some spectacular atmospheric riffs and add in vocal and rhythmic variety as we progress into the album. Beginning with track #1 ‘Sons Of Adam, Daughters Of Eve’ the band sticks pretty much to the defined genre space without really pushing it beyond. What they however manage to do is to induce sincerity into the output which comes across delicately. “Moksha” does seem like a straight forward Doom / Death album. However, the band time and again manages to add another layer successfully. Consider the denseness of early KATATONIA coupled with the flowing Gothic edges of PARADISE LOST in their recent years as your platform. Add to it an unmistakable spiritual Black Metal tinge clearly inspired by nature to round off what the band does on this album. DALIT on the whole have certainly displayed experience and maturity in their songwriting. I’d certainly recommend fans of the sub genre to give this album a listen. It’s not the typical wall of slow moving auditory assault, it does offer a few elements of surprise all across the album. I’ve quite enjoyed it. Recommended!
