Are you into the so-called retro Thrash? Me not since there is nothing original or really interesting that you cannot find in a RAZOR, HALLOWS EVE, DARK ANGEL, SODOM, MANDATOR, ABBATOIR, CYCLONE, KRUIZ or DREAM DEATH album. And when I need something different into Thrash territory I like to listen to CORONER, SKYCLAD’s first album, FORCED ENTRY, ANACRUSIS, WATCHTOWER, SACROSANCT, DEATHROW’s third album, HEATHEN’s second album or the experimental WARFARE (UK) records. Belgium’s DEVASTATIÖN just released their first EP last month, entitled “Drink With The Devil” and it contains 5 retro Thrash tracks. The music sometimes sounds like KREATOR, CRANIUM and VENOM. The vocals remind me a bit of Germany’s MINOTAUR (‘Power Of Darkness’). DEVASTATIÖN’s music is fast, brutal, aggressive… and fucking predictable. This is a little piece of boring Thrash Metal… nothing more, nothing less. If you want some ‘devastating’ classic Thrash Metal then try DEVASTATION’s "Idolatry". If you want some really good contemporary Thrash or Speed Metal, try GATEKRÄSHOR, INFERNAL SLAUGHTER, BARROW WIGHT, RIPPER, FORCED KILL, NEKROMANTHEON, BESIEGED, etc. And if you want to hear the same riffs that you heard in 1.000 different bands before, then try DEVASTATIÖN’s "Drink With The Devil".
