Grey Anguish

This is the debut full-length of this Russian DISSECTOR, a band formed in 1992 under the monicker Дистимия that was changed to this more accessible one. In the past they released, if my info is correct, three EPs called ”Cry For Me” (2007), ”Subhuman” (2014) and ”An Angel With No Home” (2015). Also two compilations ”Not Like Before” (2012) and ”Maybe One Day” (2013). As these titles may suggest, this is not a brutal or heavy band and the music on ”Grey Anguish” can be compared to the most mellow Gothenburg Metal. It’s probably more Gothic Rock. Most tracks are dark, melancholic and melodic with sometimes additional keyboards to increase this atmosphere. The tempo is low with occasional galloping acceleration. The production is fitting while the vocals are cool with a light growling throat and a strong accent in the spoken parts. In almost 45 minutes 10 tracks and 1 intro are unleashed. Because of the almost repeating pattern in speed and riffing the impression grew that it started to sound the same. Some tracks like ’Sinking In Disgrace’, ’An Angel With No Home’ and ’Even Me’ clearly showed the Thrash roots in a tight way. To cut it short, for what they stand for.
