DISTRESS OF RUIN
Predators Among Us

Something stinks in the metaldom of Finland… Too many bands for sure for a so low populated country, it is said that walking in the streets of Helsinki or Turku, the people around you are exclusively long-haired and clad in the regular Metal uniform. No wonder then that a lack of quality becomes inevitable. Take DISTRESS OF RUIN for an example. I am not afraid to say that their first offering is unbearable. What we have here: a sort of screamo Emo Gothic Metal played at slow pace. Some passages make me think of the musical soup you can hear on end titles of DTV films or in TV commercials for adolescents. The vocals come as an aural torture, the mix between screamed growls and clear vocals (clear vocals are an heresy anyway, a lame excuse for bad vocalists) make me cringe so much it sounds bad and uninspired. The pace is the same from a track for another, there is no hooks, you got the impression you hear only one repetitive composition from the beginning to the end. This record is a catastrophe, and there is no place in my life for such band and music. And I bet this would be the case with the majority of regular VFTD readers. You can easily check out by yourselves, thanks to the internet sources. Me? I gladly pass to never return to this mess.
