DIVINE EVE
Vengeful And Obstinate

Ibex Moon Records, a label that is constantly releasing quality material brings us the latest release from DIVINE EVE. You may recognize the name for their now classic "As The Angels Weep" EP from 1993. The band reformed and released yet another EP for 2010. Still rooted firmly in Doom Death Metal à la HELLHAMMER / CELTIC FROST, this new material has a simplistic approach, yet it manages to keep up to their name. Production wise this MCD has a muffed sound that reminds me of BLACK SABBATH at times. There is a song where the band (oddly) speeds up: ‘Whispers Of Fire’ and it is a good variation of pace. My only complain is the lead guitar work that has a punkish vibe that doesn’t fit the music well, even in slower moments. Every other instrument is played with conviction and attitude. "Vengeful And Obstinate" is not a memorable release, but it shows DIVINE EVE getting back to work and developing their sound for the new millennium.
