Do you worship at the throne of VADER and LOST SOUL? Do you spend time wondering how things would sound if MORBID ANGEL and MERCYLESS were best friends? How about… Well I think you get my point. EVERDEAD, hailing from Poland and with a few releases under their bullet-studded belts, bring you that sound from the bands mentioned above. Upon immediate listening, you will recognize the familiar VADER sound, featuring vocals by Mat Stargard, who also serves as the sole guitarist. His riffing style and tone are highly reminiscent of his fellow countrymen. Can this be a bad thing? Well, it depends on who you ask. If you are a fan of the “Ultimate Incantation” release, this will be right up your alley. If you are very selective and or hypercritical of bands that wear their influences too much, it could be time to move on. The positive is that it sounds amazing. The band is fast and tight. Most of the songs are up-tempo and to the point, and with a bit over half an hour runtime, you can’t complain. There is plenty of that good Death Thrash riffing that keeps your ears glued and provokes those air guitar moments in abundance. The negative is while in the overall, the album is a barnstormer, but it’s a bit hard to pick out a standout track. It can be a bit samey in the songwriting department. It may be just a bit hard to select something in the whirlwind of sound. So, in conclusion, I find it a fun listen, and I will probably come back to it. Yeah, I have a sort of weak spot for this style of Death Metal and I do enjoy the energy behind it. Also as well because of the cover art. It just draws me in with its excellent colors and a slight Ed Repka feel. They have a few releases in their back catalogue, go check them out.
