FUNERAL FEAST
Genocide Ad Nauseam
(Northern Sound Records)
33:24min

FUNERAL FEAST play pretty modern American sounding Death Metal. Definitely fast with a good portion of slammy groove. The direction is DEEDS OF FLESH, DYING FETUS plus some CORPSE, of course. Roughly. Absolutely nothing new, even the song titles are very cliché: ‘Parasite’, ‘Off With Their Heads’, ‘The Last Bloodshed’, etc. The band seems to state something like: “Innovation? Invention?? What for??? Let’s just write a few good songs!” And there is definitely some truth in it: especially the first half of the record is playing in the premier Death Metal league if I may say so. The rather short CD is getting a little monotonous around the end (esp. ‘Macabre Soul Decay’) but it’s still interesting for Death Metal loonies. I don’t like the (occasional) clean vocals. They remind me a little of SOILWORK and I don’t think it fits to the sound of FUNERAL FEAST. Try to get a hold of the strictly limited vinyl version (500 copies). Solid indeed. www.funeralfeast.cjb.net
