Vanished Away In Tranquillity

Fresh stuff for the black masses. HOKEDUN is a duo from Warwick, deep in the heart of old England. Their name derives from old Armenian language and means "Spiritual house", according to my research on Wikipedia. With their demo EP "Vanished Away In Tranquillity" they show their first sign of life. And they do not present us pure Black Metal, instead HOKEDUN spice up their music with acoustic guitars, some electronic elements and a good shot of melodies. On the first sight, this sounds pretty interesting, and it might have been a quite impressing debut, if the programmed drums weren’t such a pain in the ass, especially on the opening ‘Struggle In The Palm Of Azrael’. The following ‘Giant And Midget’ suffers from the same problem, which is a real pity, since the song itself is a real fine progressive Black Metal song. The same goes for ‘Severely Suffered’, that is based more in classic Norwegian style. On the other hand, you’ll find some Gothenburg inspired guitars on ‘Erosion Of Your Sick Soul’, that would fit very well to any old DARK TRANQUILLITY album. The acoustic title track finishes "Vanished Away In Tranquillity" in a fine manner. Honestly, this band has a lot of potential and fine ideas. So, please, give these guys a real drummer, a natural drum sound and they might come up with a very fine follow-up! Meanwhile, you should give them a chance at www.reverbnation.com/hokedun or www.facebook.com/hokedun
