“Dependent On Beauty” is the debut demo by HOMICIDAL. This infernal duo hails from Algeria and delivers us here a lethal dose of brutal Death Metal. The six tracks on this disc remind me a little bit on the Death Metal scene in the early 90s and it’s quite obvious that the US underground (early 90s as well as the new brutal scene) had a big influence on the songwriting of this commando from Algiers. The pace of the stuff is mostly fast like we used to know it from bands in that genre. So you can find fast blasts, heavy mid tempo sections and even some small grooves. The riffs are simple but effective… sometimes with a slight thrashy touch… cool! It’s clear that the focus of the band is on delivering heavy, brutal stuff here without drifting into a too technical, sophisticating direction. The vocals performance of Skinned Alive is in the brutal way. A kind of deep, utterly evil grunts – stertorous straight from the abyss…. maybe a bit monotonous at times but ok. The band is using a drum computer due to the fact that it is hard to find a suitable and accomplished drummer in Algeria for that kind of brutal shit (which all of you could immagine for sure). Skinned Alive who was responsible for the drum machine did a satisfying job and adjusted the machine well… so it works even a human drummer would be better. The production and general sound quality is surprisingly good, the instruments and stuff can be heard quite well and doesn’t need to hide from any other underground releases. All in all its a cool release which should appeal all to Metalheads who are into brutal Death Metal stuff deeply rooted in the underground. I hope to hear from this band more in the future.
