Jawbreaker Records is a fiercely independent Metal label from Sweden, born out of pure resistance to the polished, plastic mainstream. They deal in nothing but raw Heavy, Speed and Thrash Metal – loud, fast and unapologetically underground. No trends. No compromise. Just real Metal for those who still bleed iron. By the way, trends are such a difficult thing. More albums are being released right now than ever before, making it almost impossible to speak of trends. Rather, several developments are constantly happening simultaneously. Even though there are no exact figures, based on the statistics from The Metal Archives, 38 albums were released per month in the 1980s, and since the early 2000s somewhere between 500 and 1,000 per month. Some internet forums even report a current data of over two-thousand albums, considering everything that falls under the term Metal. Per month, mind you. But back to “Ruler Of The Wolves” by HUNGER. Forgive the pun, but this debut EP really makes you hungry for more. Classic Heavy / Speed Metal, which reminds me of German bands like GRAVE DIGGER or the very early RUNNING WILD. It is also fitting that the band from Spain covered ‘Beware The Demons’, a song by the German band STORMWITCH that was only played live but never recorded in the studio. If you like your Heavy Metal with the classic ingredients high-speed riffing, thunderous drums, pulsating bass and forceful vocals plus sing-along choruses, check out HUNGER. Only three songs, plus the mentioned cover track, intro and interlude, but enjoyable to the max. Anyone wondering why HUNGER has decorated the short playing time with an intro and interlude, it is neither superfluous nor a waste of time. On the contrary, both tracks ‘Descent Into The Abyss’ and ‘Evil Omen’ round off the EP. “Ruler Of The Wolves” will be released on CD, music cassette and digitally.
