Dallas based Heavy Metal newcomers MYTH CARVER have just landed their first EP onto the scene titled “Twist Of Fate”. The EP consists of six tracks including two bonus songs. The quintet has released a few singles in the past two years but not much else is known about the band (even after checking Metal Archives). Let’s dive into this EP and see what they have to offer in the just over 26 minutes of a debut. Kicking things off is ‘Untamed Steel’ with its “Kill ‘Em All” era METALLICA guitar riffs. The production is crisp and clear, the vocals are on point and are not drowned out by the music. The bass and drums work in a unified front to provide the backbone of the beat. ‘Thunderkill’ is a mid-tempo jam that delivers, ‘Shadow Firmament’ is a straighter forward jam that punishes you with heavy guitars that are slower paced, but something that you would see a MMA fighter use for an entrance theme. ‘Iron Helm’ is a nice follow up, changing in pace from fast tempo to mid-tempo, to closing out in a slow pace. The last two tracks are bonus tracks exclusive to the No Remorse Records version of the CD: ‘King Of The Pyre’ and ‘Crimson Terrain’. Both follow the same formula of mid-tempo, the dynamic vocal range of singer Daniel Schmuck and some really intriguing guitar solos. Overall, you get some good old school Heavy Metal jams on this EP that gives the listener an appetizer for what can be expected from MYTH CARVER on future releases. A solid start for the band’s discography. Fans of ETERNAL CHAMPION and NWOBHM bands will really enjoy this EP. Give it a spin and see for yourself.
