Formed back in 2019, this is the second album of this Malaysian Death Metal band, that checks all the boxes for a competent release. This time their sound is more influenced by the American Death Metal, especially DEICIDE, MORBID ANGEL and touches of early SUFFOCATION, with slight sounds that remind of Drunen – era PESTILENCE, and of course a lot of evil Thrash Metal. The production is very good, it all sounds quite organic, and they were able to create a crunchy guitar tone. Although the band plays fast, they do sound quite confident in their mid tempo rhythms. The vocals are good for what the music needs, but a bit more variation would probably be better. Lyrically speaking it’s all about death, doom and perdition which is the way I want my Death Metal to be. It’s the kind of band that sets the atmosphere through the guitars, that are always doing a heavy basic riff, that comes out with brutal results, and they are not afraid to use a good guitar solo here and there to enhance the darkness upcoming. I would say that they also have a lot in common with English masters BOLT THROWER. Almost 40 years ago I knew about Metal bands from this country and they were always a thing to experience as they perfectly mixed their exotic origins with the rebel spirit of the old skull Metal of Death, coming always with a sound of their own. While that probably is not completely the case in this release, they do have that touch that one can sense, and that for followers of Death Metal I would recommend to give a listen. The band can really reach a very high standard as one can hear in the song ‘Locust Plague’, which would make Jo Bench proud. Again, nothing original, yet done with so much conviction and power that in the end, I enjoy this one quite a lot. Evil Death Metal fans, this is for you. Great cover art by the way. www.facebook.com/obscurialmusic, www.facebook.com/memento.mori.label
