ORV is a Black Metal duo from Hungary. The EP “Calmness Is Pretence” is their third release, following the 2019 demo “Tidal” and the 2021 EP “A Crowning Of Misery”. The Duo is formed by Attila Gyulai on bass and Tamás Fider on guitars, drums and vocals, both are already bandmates in the Pagan Metal band KALTES and the Folk Black Metal band HETUMOGER. Unlike their past, ORV are totally devoted to straight ahead Black Metal, mixed here and then with some other Black Metal derivatives. The vocals are almost exclusively growls with melodic / blackened Death Metal matrices. The atmosphere is very dark and the sense of evil is very clear in the instrumental parts. Some parts are slowed down and then start again with a chaotic warfare interspersed by some melodic notes that I really appreciated, since they have a personal touch, which could distinguish ORV in the future. The vocals, in my opinion, are not on the same level as the musical arrangements, but I can understand that this is a studied choice which may find other approval. A great applause deserves ‘Hollowed Songs – I. Eroded / II. Away / III. Into The Perpetual’, the last track, which is a proper musical journey among Black Metal and its world. Since this is their second EP, I hope the next one will be a full length. In the meantime make sure to check them out at their Bandcamp page https://weareorv.bandcamp.com or the label’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/ibdc666
