Hailing from Antofagasta, Chile, PENDULVM came up with an EP, “Llanos De Tumbas”, right away after their debut demo “Promo MMXXIV”. Formed by multi-instrumentalist D. Anhedonist in 2024, this one-man band delivers a dark and primitive Death Doom. This EP features four tracks, including ‘Llanos De Tumbas’ and ‘Old And Doomed’ from their demo, alongside new additions ‘Lento Descenso Al Desprecio’ and ‘Caballero Errante’. Right from the start, massive doomy riffs envelop minds and ears, creating an atmosphere thick with dread and morbidity. The title track, which loosely means ‘Tomb Plains’, shifts seamlessly between slow, lumbering doom and unsettling tempos. This sets the atmosphere that awaits you, where Anhedonist’s guttural vocals, reminiscent of early DARKTHRONE era “Soulside Journey”, evoke a total sense of possession. ‘Old And Doomed’ stands out with its grinding intensity, presenting a terrifying force that lingers long after the track ends. ‘Lento Descenso Al Desprecio’ continues the horror, blending dread with an organic, churning sound. The final number, Caballero Errante’, wraps up the EP, leaving you with a feeling of just being traversed through a dark nightmare, just like the archaic album cover represents. The production is raw and with enough grit, perfectly capturing the EP’s archaic feel. These all says, “Llanos De Tumbas” is a solid EP from these Chileans that resonates with the essence of Doom and Death Metal, surely marking PENDULVM a band to watch for the future.
